I assume you were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes? Usually the initial treatment is metformin and I know walmart has a $4 prescription plan for metformin. In addition, there is another drug class called sulphonylureas (glipizide or glyburide) which is available generic, so it should not be very expensive. If you need glucose meter or such, you can always ask your doctor to provide you with one as they get free samples all the time. In addition, you can try to call the manufacturing company. Sometimes, they have indigent program to help people without insurance and they give $35-50 off their test strips.

Contact the manufactures of the supplies you need (insulin, medication, test meter, etc) directly by email.
ALL medical manufacturers have a “Patient Assistance Programs”. MAYBE you will qualify. some manufactures will offer to pay your out-of-pocket on prescription; some suppliers will give you a meter for free; some suppliers will give you reduced rates on insulin. Just contact the manufacturer BY EMAIL and see what they have available.
Your doctor can often give you “samples” of certain drugs. The drug manufacturers supply the physicians with small supplies of certain drugs. Maybe your physician has some available. Usually, you can get a month or two for free. The physician can ALSO talk to the sales rep every month or so, and the rep can take this information back to his company, so ASK the physician if he can help you financially with sample or “freebies”.
The Glucometers (Glucose test meters) are sometimes supplied FREE to the doctor (especially if you see an Endocrinologist) and they give them to patients, because they KNOW they have you hooked on buying test strips, at about $1000 a month.
Stop being so damn shy! Just ASK the doctor and the manufacturers what they can do to help you!

I found a great site called ehealthsource.com. It has over 400 high-quality, value-branded products that are all FDA approved! There is one product category dedicated to diabetes care. You can get a blood glucose meter for $15.00 and testing strips for $4.00 a box. You can also find vitamins, cough medicine and foot cream made specifically for diabetics. By purchasing your supplies you can save anywhere from 40-50% I know its not free but if you can not find what you are looking for..ehealthsource.com is a great alternative! I wish you the best of luck.
