How Does A Doctor Test A Person For Diabetes?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I wanted to know how a doctor tests a person to find out id they have diabetes? Do they just prick your finger, or is it a blood test where they have to draw blood with a needle of what?

you can’t eat after midnight. when you get to the doctors office they take a glucose reading. that is what they use as your starting point or your base reading. then they make you drink a whole bottle of a sugar soda. i got to choose what i wanted to drink (i chose coke). then you have to wait about an hour. they they do another glucose reading(to do a glucose reading they take a small needle and prick a finger with it and take a very small amount of blood and put it into a special machine that take about 5 seconds to get a reading). they write down this new reading. then you have to drink another bottle of soda and wait another hour. you will follow this routine for most of the morning. if after several hours your readings haven’t gone up then you are not diabetic. if your readings go up quite a bit then you are and the doctor will direct you on what to do. my family doctor did my test on me.

  3. ok well i have got tested about a month ago so they test your blood glucose using a meter a machine used to test human and animal blood glucose or they take some blood for testing. if you think you are a diabetic check the following symptoms:dizziness,Enhanced urination,or you are super sleepy (if you are super sleepy you maybe are falling into a coma)

  4. Hi There
They do a blood test – draw blood. It is done first thing in the mornings has they do a fasting test which means you cant have any breakfest or drink (only water) before the test. Normal range is 4-8 so anything below or above they do more testing into it

  5. the test for blood sugar or glucose level is usually a finger prick. I does not hurt. If you indeed have diabetes you will be doing it every day..The other test is by drawing blood for a A1c test. That shows your blood levels over a 3 month period and shows the trend to being high.

  6. They measure the sugar level in your blood by pricking your finger and using a meter. It can also be measured through a blood draw or in pee.

  8. Blood test after not eating for about 8-12 hours. Usually have to get blood drawn three times in 5 or six hours in the same day.
